A little about me
I’m Tammy Lewis, and I absolutely love what I do. I’m passionate about people and feel genuinely honoured to work alongside people like you as you take your own personal journey through counselling. I get to witness the things you bring into the room — your experiences, thoughts, emotions, struggles, relationships, humour, tears, hopes and everything in between.
My aim is to provide a warm, safe, non-judgemental and empathetic environment where you can feel truly seen and heard. A space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences at your own pace, without feeling that you have to have everything figured out before you arrive.
The therapeutic relationship can feel very different from other relationships in our lives, and sometimes it is something you have to experience to understand. Counselling can mean sharing parts of yourself that you may not usually share with others — your pain, your tears, your humour, your childhood, your relationships, your family dynamics, your work, your values, your personality, your struggles and the things you may find difficult to talk about.
How often do we have a space where we can simply be ourselves — all of ourselves?
A space where we aren't judged, criticised or told what we should or shouldn't do. Instead, counselling can offer an opportunity to explore who you are, what you need and what matters to you, while developing greater understanding and self-awareness.
I’m deeply committed to supporting others and believe that counselling is more than just talking. It is a collaborative space built on trust, connection and understanding, where we can work together at a pace that feels right for you.
Beyond my work, I love spending time with my family and friends. I have a deep appreciation for art in all its forms and am making a conscious effort to be more creative.
I also want to share a little more about me personally. I am dyslexic and have experienced post-COVID syndrome (Long COVID). These are both experiences that have shaped parts of my own journey and given me a deeper appreciation of how differently life experiences can affect us.
I don't believe we need to have experienced exactly the same things as another person to be able to listen, understand and sit alongside them. Everyone's experiences are unique, and I value bringing openness, curiosity and compassion to the people I work with.
I believe that every person is unique, and so is their journey. That’s why I take an integrative approach, meaning I tailor each session to your specific needs. By drawing from different therapeutic methods, I can support you in exploring your thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a way that feels right for you.
Here’s how my approach works:
Person-Centred Therapy – A Safe, Non-Judgmental Space
You are at the heart of the therapy process. This approach focuses on self-exploration, self-acceptance, and personal growth. I provide an empathetic, non-judgmental environment where you feel truly heard, valued, and understood.
Psychodynamic Therapy – Understanding the Past to Shape the Future
Our past experiences often influence how we think, feel, and behave today. Psychodynamic therapy helps uncover unconscious patterns, unresolved emotions, and past experiences that may be affecting your present. By bringing awareness to these patterns, you can gain insight and create lasting change.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – Challenging Unhelpful Thoughts
CBT is a structured, goal-oriented approach that helps identify and change negative thought patterns. If you struggle with anxiety, low mood, or self-doubt, this method can help you reframe thoughts, manage emotions, and develop healthier coping strategies.
Inner Child Work – Healing from Within
Many of our emotional struggles stem from childhood experiences. Inner Child Work allows us to reconnect with and nurture the parts of ourselves that may feel wounded, unheard, or neglected. By offering compassion to your inner self, we can work towards healing and self-acceptance.
Each session is shaped around your personal needs, helping you gain deeper self-awareness, resilience, and emotional well-being.

"I believe Tammy embodies everything a counsellor should be. Right from the start, she was authentic, warm, and welcoming. Because she is so caring and empathetic, she creates a safe, judgment-free space where you can explore and unravel your thoughts and feelings, and their effects on your life. She also offers practical strategies to manage your mindset, helping to bring you peace and improve the overall quality of your life. I am so glad I found Cathartic Counselling and Tammy".

"Have been wanting to start my counselling journey for many years but always found it a very intimidating and scary idea. Tammy however has made the experience incredibly comfortable, calming and manageable! Couldn't recommend her any higher, don't wait as long as I did to start the process!"
